What to expect when you’re expecting… A Draft…

The draft is finally here, and I am as excited as a teenage girl in 2014 when Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back at Starbucks…. (Pause for laughter) … (Continues pausing) COME ON that’s pretty good. I guess it takes a while to get back in the groove. Let’s try again.

The draft is finally here, and I am as excited as Jake is on the one day a week, he can drink beer!… eh not my best work… to obvious?

The draft is finally here, and I am as excited as Adam is when his girlfriend gets out of her last High School class!… Low Blow? Too far? (Don’t take it too far Adam, Hanna was still in High School when I started dating her)

The draft is finally here, and I am as excited as Logan was when he quit Lake Aurora one week into the summer! … Funny cause its true?

I don’t know guys… it’s the preseason for everyone, I guess.

Alright, so I am calling this one, “What to expect when you’re expecting… a draft” and I am going to give you 3 things that I can guarantee you happens at our draft Friday night. To the list!!

  1. The first one is football related; I can guarantee you Logan/Mason/Derek mess up with one of the first three picks in the draft.

“What do you mean by that Mitchell?” Great question me… What I mean is, the first three pick of this year’s draft are pretty obvious. and I mean, really obvious, but as we have seen in drafts before, someone is going to try and get cute and screw it up. “If the picks are so obvious, why don’t you tell us?” Wow, I am just gonna say it… big fan of asking myself questions. Here we go.

  • The first pick is obvious, Josh Jacobs. I don’t really think I need to make a case for why Logan needs to pick, but I will… Josh Jacobs, RB Oakland is a dude and by “a dude” I mean he’s only 5’10 but a whopping 220lbs. Which means, he is at the very least a 2 down back. Have I mentioned he not only played RB in High School but he also play QB and some WR, so the dude is an athlete which means he can at least catch a football…? Now that’s just the pro Josh Jacobs side, there’s this other side where we can talk about how John Gurden likes to just have 1 RB because he thinks its 2008.
    • “Now if it is so obvious, that Logan should pick Josh Jacobs, why would you think he’d pick anyone else?” Well, that’s because our resident genus, Adam, decided to drop Baker Baker Touchdown maker and keep Goff (Which makes ZERO sense) and Logan did not keep a quarterback. Not to mention, Logan is sexually attracted to Bakers “Bad Boy Attitude”. So… natural fit? Let me put it this way, if Logan picks Mayfield first overall Saturday it will be one of the worst picks, I have seen… but I won’t be surprised.
  • That leads us to Mason, that dude is just sketchy… he’s not eating meat one day, telling us that we are all monsters for murdering cows and the next day he is eating Ribs off the bone like a savage. There’s no telling what he will do next. The obvious pick here is David Montgomery, RB Chicago. He is the clear-cut number 1 in Chicago, in line for 1/2nd down work and goal-line touches. Now, of the three, (Assuming Logan picks Jacobs) Mason is the one I have the most confidence to do the right thing, but there’s always a chance…
    • So, who else would he pick? Well, that depends on what kind of “Fantasy worm holes” Mason has been getting himself into, but Tony Pollard is a roll of the dice that might be worth making. If Zeke doesn’t come back before the season starts, I’d bet he has already played his last game in Dallas, which means the Rookie is now the most valuable Rookie RB in the whole league.
  • Finally, the wild card… Derek. Derek has shown some… let say questionable fantasy football judgement in the past, so would it be out of the question that he takes a swing with his first pick in the draft? I don’t think so… So let’s start with who he should draft, that’d be Miles Sanders, RB Philly. He won’t be the starter week 1 but the thought around the team is it’s only a matter of time before he takes over. Which would make him yet another starting rookie RB… which is what a dynasty is built on.
    • Who else might Derek pick? Well, because I’d be willing to bet $1,000 Derek doesn’t know who Miles Sanders is, I’d bet he is willing to take someone who he does know. Who does Derek know? Well, there are three guys, first is Cam Newton. “That’s so stupid, he just dropped him, you’re an idiot Mitchell”. Yea, yea, I know, but look, Derek needs a QB and if he wants a top 10 QB with production he can count on, Cam is his best option. Speaking of QB’s, if Logan passes on Baker, I’d think Derek would take him at 3rd. Baker is already a top 5 QB in the game and he is only a second-year player. Plus, with adding in AJ Green, Derek might be able to win now… So why wait till mid-season for a guy that may or may not pan out? My last name is a crazy one, but one I’d take in the first round if I had a pick, and that is DeSean Jackson. Coming back to Philly is big for him and he has a ton to prove. Add that into the equation with a healthy Carson Wentz, could be a home coming year for DeSean.
  1. Florida will lose and Jake is gonna be pissed
    • Bring on the hot takes… ammi right? Well, I don’t like Florida this year (and yes, it is because they beat Michigan in a bowl game). I think this is going to be a terribly ugly game. Ton of defense, but ultimately, I don’t think Florida’s offense has improved much and that Miami will have just a little more than Florida can handle. GIVE ME THE CANES IN THE UPSET.
  2. Someone trades up for a bench player
    • You really hate to see it but it will happen. I am thinking too many people will be coming with their own “custom sheets” (Ps, my custom sheets are for sale, $5) that leads to people having a deep sleeper they LOVE. Which leads to someone trading a third-round pick in 2020 for OJ Howard. Let’s be real, there might be 5-10 players in a given season that are legit sleepers. Dudes who are drafted in the last 5 rounds or picked-up off waivers and that become weekly starters. The rest is just crap. Bunch of guys who will never start and kickers/defenses. So, let me just say it now, no one is worth trading up for. Keep your players/picks… but also… someone will fall for it.

Well, team that is it for my predictions… for now.
