So there I was… standing in line at Taco Bell. The Bell is my usual lunch spot on days that end in a “y” but this time was different… I wasn’t excited. My mouth wasn’t watering… I had fallen into quite the Bell Rut. (Bell Rut is when I keep ordering the same thing at taco bell and start to lose interest in the place I love). What do I do? Do I order my usual number 7, with a soft taco and a Mt Dew or should I mix it up? But then, an angelic voice came from the heavens and said,
“Mitchell, try that new Triple Double Crunch Wrap Box”..
I replied“Thy Taco Bell come, Thy will be done”
That was 2 days ago, and I am still sick.
My point here is, never change your taco bell order. Ever. Also, something about choices… I don’t remember, I’ve spent the last two days on a toilet…
This year, I am handing out draft grades and telling you, your best and worst pick so enjoy.
Ps. Still no air pods.
Mitchell: D– Can’t win ‘em all I guess?
Best Pick: DJ Chark. This is all you need to know about my draft. DJ Chark is someone I do like though, he is a sneaky slot receiver on the Bortles-less Jaguars.
Worst Pick: Phillip Dorsett.I was really happy about this pick in the moment… I remember…. I think…. Well, either way, Phillip Dorsett is in a weird jumble of New England WRs and the best case senecio is he is the 4thbest passing option. Wavier Wire fodder.
Sneaky Pick: Don’t count out Trey Quinn… White WR in Washington. That is all I know about him.
Gray: C.
Best Pick: DeDe Westbrook. Remember that one time Logan didn’t know he had the rights to DeDe Westbrook? Yikes…. Well anyways, he is on Gray’s team now and I think DeDe has WR2 upside this year. Which makes him the 3rdbest player on Gray’s team.
Worst Pick: Harrison Butker. So, everything has to be seen through the lenses of when the player was taken… So Gray, a team in bad need of start-able players, taking a kicker in the third round doesn’t make any sense to me. You can pick up a 10 point kicker any week of the season or draft one in the 7thround.
Caleb: C. But in his defense, the Braves were playing a regular season baseball game in August… So, he was distracted.
Best Pick: Courtland Sutton…I guess? I like Sutton, decent second year WR1 whole is the second best passing option on his team… but also Dime-back Joe Flacco is their QB.
Worst Pick: Nyheim Hines I don’t think Nyheim is worthy of a 4thround pick and might not be worthy of a roster spot. Mainly because he is a third down back in an offense (even with Luck) doesn’t throw the ball to RB’s. Maybe his value goes up with Jacoby but with TY/Funchess/Doyle/Ebron/Campbell, he just isn’t going to get enough targets to stay fantasy relevant.
Tim: C+. Well, your worst picks are the ones I made
Best Pick: Can I just say all young WR’s… Well of course I can, I can do whatever I want. I love the three rookie WR picks, DK/Samuels/Isabella… Because you just need one of those to hit. One of those hits and your whole draft was worth it.
Worst Pick: Devin Funchess. Funny story… I told you to pick him. Now, this is a bit of revisionist history here but with Luck gone, Funchess’s value drops a ton. He was a fringe starter with Luck, now he is going to be a very frustrating “maybe he will score a TD, maybe he won’t” kind of play. Not a starter.
Jake: C+.I know what you’re thinking… didn’t Jake lose enough on Saturday, why are you picking on him?
Best Pick: Adam Humphrees. I think Adam can be a every week starter on most teams in this league. Add that to the value of getting him late in the 4thround… Great pick.
Worst Pick: N’Keel Harry. Now, don’t get me wrong, this pick is as much of a dart throw as any of the other rookie WR but, I am not a fan of Harry for a couple reasons. Can anyone remember the last good rookie WR Tom Brady played with? Anyone? No? Aaron Dobson?! Remember him… nope. It’s because Tommy doesn’t play nice with people learning what they’re doing. Plus, the team is already filled with proven pass catchers, so not seeing much for Harry anytime soon.
Ben: C+. Once again, a team that I made picks for and I don’t like their draft…
Best Pick: Devin Singletary. He is defiantly a “wait and see” rookie, but with Ben’s roster, he’s got some slots open. The Bills have Shady and Frank Gore ahead of him, but if they fall out of playoff contention, they might throw Singletary in near the end of the season, so there’s a chance he could be a starter at some point this season.
Worst Pick: Carlos Hyde. Picked in the 3rdround and he is going to get cut. That’s really all I have on this one.
Adam: B-. At least this part of your night went right?
Best Pick: Kenny Stills. This is purely a value pick here. I think in a redraft league, Kenny Still would have been a 9thround pick, which would have made him a 1stround pick in our draft, so to get him in the end of the fourth round is a steal. I really like Stills for 2019. He is a huge deep play threat and with Fitz tossing the rock, he could really shine early in the season.
Worst Pick: David Njoku. How odd is it that in 2019 we want anyone in a Browns uniform? The value of pass catchers in Cleveland is way over hyped and that includes their 3rdyear TE. He might catch a pass or two a game but not nearly enough to be fantasy relevant, I’d much rather seen you take someone with higher upside.
Mason: B-. Well well well… Look who we have here…
Best Pick: Matt Brieda. This pick will probably prove to be a very good one. It looks like Bridea will be more than just a 3rd down back, and as he has proven, if given the opportunity, he can be very good. Now, the downside is that at his size, he is likely to get hurt so this guy reeks of “SELL HIGH”.
Worst Pick: Justin Jackson. As the song goes… “Don’t go chasing waterfalls… with first round picks”. I am all about the dart throw, but it looks like you will be dropping Justin Jackson 2 or 3 weeks into the season. So why waste a first round pick on him? You probably could have gotten him in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Hanna: B. Hanna had a better draft than Mason?! What kind of world are we living in!!
Best Pick: Tony Pollard. This is the best pick of the draft, value wise and couldn’t have fallen to a better person. Tony Pollard, as I said in my last blog, is a huge in term of handcuff and in terms of “what if Zeke never comes back”. That was hands down the pick of the draft in the third round.
Worst Pick: K. Higdon. Another pick I advised on… Another bad pick… Seriously people, why is anyone listening to me? Anyways, Higdon is going to get cut or dropped soon.
Logan: B. Logan had a better draft than Mason?! What kind of world are we living in!!
Best Pick: Josh Jacobs. Thank you, Logan, for not messing up the number 1 pick and letting Mason get Josh Jacobs. But that’s not the impressive part… The impressive part is the next five picks. Cam Newton, DJax, Geroniamo Allison, Goodwin and TreQuan Smith. Those are pretty good picks. Good for you man!
Worst Pick: Cam Newton. “Nice trick LIAR! You just said Cam was a good pick, now it is a bad one!” Well, let me explain… Cam Newton is a very good pick BUT I think you could have waited a round and picked another young player with upside instead. It’s not about the pick, as much as it is about the timing of the pick.
Derek: A. Derek did something good in fantasy football and this time he didn’t have to screw Logan.
Best Pick: Royce Freeman. It really looks like Rolls Royce is going to be a key contributor in the backfield in Denver. The word all camp has been dialing back Phillip Lyndsey’s workload and giving more to Freeman, which makes him a second year contributing RB… Which is what we like. Also, Justice Hill is a pretty solid pick.
Worst Pick: Baker Mayfield. There’s never a reason or a need to take a QB early in a draft. There I said it. Mayfield might be a top 10ish QB this year so that will save at least some of it but I still think you would get similar production out of someone like Cam Newton later in the draft.
Jarro: A. Well… I am not excited to break this one down.
Best Pick: JJ Orcega-Whiteside. I am a big fan of JJ, he had a good camp and preseason. Seems to be well like by the team and should take Nelson Agholor spot in the slot soon. I am also a big fan of most of your pick, which kind of pains me to say… I love Darwin Thompson and Mecole Hardman, I guess watching all that SEC football really pays off
Worst Pick:I didn’t really dislike any of your picks… Shrug emoji.
