I am about to head out the door, bags are packed, car is loaded, GPS is loaded up… and my final thought before leaving… “Damn, if I don’t write these picks now it isn’t gonna happen”. Yes, after scoring 70 points last week, I still care enough to stop what I am doing and write this stupid ass blog. It’s a disease actually. I have a longer, more in-depth, better blog planned but I am going to save that and give you something special, but first…
Here’s the way way to early “I am about to go on vacation” picks.
Last week of the regular season.
Jake vs Jarro
With Caleb losing last week, this game is less important, but I am sure it is meaningful for playoff positioning. I think Jake’s team is good but Jarro is really good.
Jarro wins
Gray vs Ben
Hey, Gray the horror story that is your season is almost over? Also, once again, good for Ben turning that team around in one year. Shoutout to him and Hanna. Good work both of you
Ben wins
Adam vs Hanna
Two good teams, and this is going to be a huge game for that number 2 seed. If Hanna wins, I believe she’d have the tie breaker over Adam. Although, winner will most likely be on my side of the bracket so.. maybe the game to lose?
Hanna wins
Logan vs Derek
Two teams that will be much better next year. Logan continues his low key tanking
Derek wins
Mason vs Caleb
I am a little worried about Mason’s team. Decently banged up. Some boom bust guys… Maybe on the road to a first round put out?
Mason wins
Tim vs Mitchell
Tim is in the playoffs and hopefully back to full strength with Theilen coming back. Lamar Jackson, Fournette, Hilton, Gordon, Theilen, Dk Metcalf, Deebo Samuel… Pretty good team.
Lobos win
Dear God, It’s me… Mitchell
50 years ago, Bo Schembechler beat what many believed to be the greatest college football team ever, the 1969 Ohio State Buckeyes. Woody Hayes was the coach of Ohio State, and longtime mentor of Bo. 1969 was Bo’s first year in Ann Arbor and that win started what would later become known as the 10-year war. Going into the 10 year war, Michigan was a historic program, but not nearly the same caliber team as Ohio State. Over the next ten-year span, Bo completely changed the course of Michigan football history, winning 6 games, losing 3 and one tie. Woody Hayes said that team in 1969 was the great team he had ever seen and that he’d never forgive Bo. Although the rivalries roots go much deeper than 1969, after that game, Woody Hayes would no longer say the word Michigan, only referring to them as the “team up north” and Ohio state fans started putting (x)s over the letter M.
As “whenwasthelasttimemichiganbeatohiostate.com” points out, it has been 2,918 days since Michigan beat Ohio State. In my lifetime, Michigan has beaten Ohio State 8 times. I am 26. I remember watching the 2003 Michigan vs Ohio State game with my father. Michigan one. I remember watching the 2011 Michigan vs Ohio State game with my then girlfriend, now wife Hanna. Michigan won. Those, in my football watching lifetime are the only two times I have seen Michigan beat Ohio State.
To say this game this game Saturday is meaningful is an understatement. I was thinking a bit Saturday about it and I compiled a list of things I’d do/give/let happen, if it meant Michigan beat Ohio State Saturday
I’d rather lose every fantasy football match for a year if it meant Michigan beating Ohio State.
I’d rather watch Michigan lose every game for a year, if it meant Michigan beating Ohio State.
I’d give $500 if it meant Michigan beating Ohio State.
I’d give my motorcycle if it meant Michigan beating Ohio State.
I’d quit my job if it meant Michigan beating Ohio State.
I’d let someone kick me in the nuts for a week straight, if it meant Michigan beating Ohio State.
I’d stop wearing Michigan apparel for a year, if it meant Michigan beating Ohio State.
The game Saturday is not a game. It is The Game.
In the name of the kakis, the glasses and the sweater.
Amen.
Go Blue.
