Its the most wonderful time of the year. The lights are out, the tree is up, and there is a cheerful smile on the face of children. All of this in honor of the magical MFL playoffs.
Playoffs are wild. There’s uncertainty, anxiety and 11 months of work poured into something that’s almost as random as a lottery. One bad week from a star. One injury in the first quarter of a game. We are all one misstep away from 7 months of wondering what if.
The playoffs are here. If you’re in them, enjoy them for what they are… random. If you aren’t… well you probably aren’t reading this and I can understand why, I didn’t even mention you in the picks.
BUT! Before we get to that, I’ve got a couple end of the season superlatives to hand out…
*lights drop, crowd applauses and Mitchell Dohm walks out in a tux*
Welcome to the 2021 MFL end of the season awards!!!
2021 comeback manager of the Year
This award goes to a team/manager who was dead in the water last year but has turned it around. The award goes toooooo…. Derek Bornemann: In a complete turn around, Derek went from years of little d fantasy energy to big d fantasy energy and I love it.
2021 better luck next year manager
This award goes to the manager with the worst luck. This one was a toss up, because Jarro got wrecked with injuries probably the worst I’ve ever seen but he still made the playoffs but Hanna had the most points against and more points for than 3 playoff teams and missed the playoffs sooooooo it’s a TIE!!! Come on stage together. Better luck next year.
2021 golfer score of the year
This award goes to our lowest scoring team because, sometimes not scoring is as difficult as scoring. Award goes toooooo… Caleb Reyes! Hey, every set back is a set up for a comeback.
2021 miss of the year
This award goes to someone who was just loud wrong about a player… the award goes toooooooo… Mason Smith! Hey, they can’t all be winners folks, and Rojo… welp… he ain’t it and Uncle Lenny is.
2021 used car salesman of the year
This award goes to the manager with the most trades… with a total of 19 trades the award goes toooooooo… Mason Smith! Alright get off the stage, no one gets two speeches in a row except me!!
Now for the big ones…
Team of the year and manager of the year. Although, these might seem similar, they’re not.
First… manager…
Manager of the year goes to someone who went above and beyond for the cause this fantasy season. It’s not just about building a killer roster, it’s about building MFL culture and camaraderie amongst the league. This person showed a renewed since of spirit and energy, he was in the chat constantly, send trades and making moves constantly… the 2021 Manager of the year goes toooooo Adam Zimmerman.
I could go on and on about how proud I am of Adam this football season. My dude not only built a monster, he came almost out of nowhere to be arguably one of the best playoff rosters. We thought, Mason, Logan, Jarro, Derek would make the playoffs… wasn’t so sure about Adam. He was teetering on the edge of being a contender but he has fully emerged now.
Now for the award of the night, team of the year
This goes to the wire to wire best team in the league. My dawg started the year top of the power rankings and now he’s got a chance to do something no other team has ever done. Sweep points and Super Bowl. To double down on that, this team called out the hottest team in the league to start the playoffs of cause… he ain’t scared.
I’m talking about the man. The myth. The legend. Mr. Logan DeVega.
As of today, Logan has accomplished enough to be known as one of the best teams in MFL history. Over the next 3 weeks he’s got a chance to grab that title and run away with it.
To the picks!
Mitchell vs Timbo
Welp, we lived this matchup last week, and based on that I should feel good right? Wrong. Timmy scored 94 points last week and got a combined 2.18 points from his Kicker/Defense/QB!!! That’s kind of impressive. The Lobo’s are calling for a new pack leader in one Patrick Mahomes. I’ve seen what you do for other people and I want that for myself.
Thursday night is huge for the Lobo’s with Mahomes & CEH playing. Tim-othy is still battling some injuries, with two starters out and maybe no Lamar Jackson. Timato has the better squad no doubt but this game has major upset potential in my honest unbiased opinion. Speaking of honest unbiased opinions… GIVE ME THE LOBOS.
Mason vs Jarro
This feels like one of those AFC playoff battles between the Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Two franchises with sustained success battling it out in the cold weather. It’s what this is all about.
Jarro is hurting, but like those bad Steelers teams of recent memory that some how make the playoffs, Jarro is in and once you’re in, anything can happen.
Mason just made a huge deadline deal to balance out his starting lineup. Buying low on Aaron Jones and Kelce makes sense in the grand scheme of things, but is this the week they turn it around? It has to be if Mason wants to win another SB.
My brain says it should be easy but my heart knows it won’t be. Give me the Mistress but the Landsharks have a punchers chance
Logan vs Adam
I shed a single tear of happiness watching Logan’s videos. That was everything we wanted when it comes to call outs and I thank you for making this fun.
Speaking of fun, this whole season between Adam and Logan has been fun. Absolute arms race. When I think Logan has it wrapped up, Adam makes a move, Logan counters, Adam counters… it’s like watching a proper boxing match.
Logan came out to start the 12th round SWINGING with a huge call out and trade. Then Adam gets Ekler and now things are interesting.
Banged up Ekler going on a Thursday night though… I don’t know.
At the end of the day, winner here is the super bowl favorite hands down. Adams got some bad matchups, JT vs New England will be so interesting, Billy usually takes away your best option, it could be a slow week for JT and the Buc against New Orleans.
Because of that, and Ekler being banged up, I’m going Logan but hats off to both of you, hell of a season.
Derek vs Max
*Derek reading that last pick with his hands up saying “what about me!”*
Yes Derek had a great year too. Fantastic turn around. Making trades to hedge in case of an early playoff exit. One thing I’ll take to the bank, Derek can handle assets. (Insert Derek butt joke here)
Speaking of nice butts, Max.
Max has been up and down throughout the year. Some face palm trades but also some trades that saved a playoff run. The thing I know about Max, he isn’t gonna stop swinging. He will manage aggressively and make moves and I love that.
He’s got a decent starting lineup and to carry my theme… it’s the playoffs and anything can happen.
If I was a betting man, I’d play it safe and take the BDE
Enjoy the football boys and Go Blue 🙏🏻
